Walk To School Day Volunteers
Dear PTA Presidents and 2008 Walk To School Day
Volunteers:
The 2009 Walk to School Day will be celebrated in Irvine on Friday, October 23, 2009. If you coordinated this event at your school and would like to “walk with us” again this year, please let me – and your incoming PTA president know. I am building my contact list and will be in touch with everyone over the summer and Fall.
If you have any ideas or suggestions to improve this event, and make Walk to School Day even more fun please let me know!
Thank you for all your help and support!
Debbie

Read For the Record
Team Kids is proud to partner with IUSD, PTA and
Jumpstart on Read for the Record, a national
campaign to break the World Record for reading
the same book on the same day!
Read for the Record, October 8, 2009
Last year, 8 IUSD elementary schools participated. This year, the goal is 100%
This year, Team Kids is also coordinating a city-wide, gently used book drive to benefit at-risk readers
This year’s official campaign book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.
Please be part of this local and national effort to promote early literacy!
PTA Presidents: Team Kids has asked each school library/media specialist to contact Team Kids by September 25 to let us know if your school is participating. Any support PTA could give at each site would be invaluable to making this effort a success!!
Talk to the librarian and/or school principal to coordinate efforts to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar to K and 1st grade students
On October 8, be sure that someone from your school reports the reading count to Team Kids
Encourage your community to donate gently-used early reading books – book fairs are a time when many kids and parents make room on the shelves for new books!
Share the attached flyer with teachers, parents, and students
Team Kids will provide a collection box for each school, and pick up books collected between 12:00 and 3:00pm on October 8. PTA: please let us know if you have someone who can help us get the used books to ECLC (1 Smoketree, Irvine CA 92604) between 12 and 3pm on the 8th
Attend a counting celebration with your kids at 3:30pm on October 8 at the Early Childhood Learning Center site, 1 Smoketree, Irvine CA 92604
